so i'm not dead...i guess i need to update more than twice a year... [Jan. 3rd, 2006|01:19 am]
back in greenville...i've had a pretty whirlwind past couple of days, and to top it off, our cable still isn't back on from the ice storm...so here i am, sitting at my computer...a freakin telephone line connected to my lovely ibook...the funny thing is i can still remember the exact dial-up routine noises the computer makes, and i mimick them each time i connect...how my life has deteriourated...

so...
my last exam was on the 22nd. i was all excited and on my merry way to the airport that afternoon...got in to philly no problem..until i come to my little gate to board the plane to take me home to greenville...and i see delayed. soon to be followed by cancelled. so i wait in a line for at least an hour. (by this time it is around 11:30 PM)...get to the desk, to realize there are no more connecting flights to charlotte or greenville until the next morning at 5:30. i give them my sob "just finished my exams" story, they put me up in a hotel, give me a comp. breakfast, and bump me up to first class for the next plane to charlotte. so, i arrived wiped out, but in style.

then we had our whole christmas thing with the entire family. it was really great. just relaxing. a good fire in the fireplace, lots and lots of cousins, homecooking, everything a gal needs.

a few days later, i left for the most unbelievable roadtrip EVER to see Jump Little Children in their final concert in charleston with my loves, emily, jamie and prentiss. it was awesome. shopping on king, sleeping in the lovely and comfortable days in, and then THE CONCERT! so since it was the last one, and it was at dock street, a nice old charelston theater, they asked everyone to dress black tie. after playing a 3.5 hour concert of awesomeness, they talked about how they started off playing on the streets of charleston, and then told the entire audience (300ish, all in black tie) to walk down to the market, where they played their encore. it was unbelievable. seriously one of, if not the best concert i have ever attended.

new years in columbia with some old family friends. it was really great to see them, and it ended with both of our entire families smoking a hooka (tobacco mind you, not weed) on their roof. i have pictures of proof.

i'm in town until mid-jan...about the 15th or so...so give me a call, i think i'm going to be getting stir crazy soon.

love to all

it's official--i'm wearing a sweater for the first time...fall is here! [Oct. 10th, 2005|12:37 pm]
[Current Mood | cold...well mainly wet]
[Current Music |Long Road- Cary Ann Herst]

except it's raining...so its not quite the crisp fall new england day. more like the bottom of the pant-leg soggy type of day. but i'm ok about it, sometimes the light misty rain is really refreshing to walk in.

so i haven't updated in a while...so here goes...seth came 2 weekends ago, and i had the best time. we went to NYC for all of saturday. if you ever find yourself in the city with a cute boy, i suggest exploring...it's way fun. we met my cousin and his wife for lunch, dicked around in midtown and central park, and then had the best dinner ever, atop the 65th floor of the GE building in rockafellar center. we sat by the window, looking out on the empire state building, and were there for sunset. it was absolutely perfect. then we spent sunday lounging around and watching movies. all in all, a perfect weekend.

i also got a job...i'm going to be calling up alums and asking them for moolah. i figured my background in shamelessly asking people for money for spirit week has prepped me well. the good news is that it pays $8 and hour, plus comission, so usually, people make between $12-$15 an hour. pas mal, n'est-ce pas?

i also have spend my first 2 weeks pay i have not yet worked online shopping...when one is busy not doing papers at 11:30ish, one starts looking online and all of the goodies from urban outfitters. no good! but i do have uber cute clothes a'comin my way.

i'm coming home in 4 days!!!! wahoo! i miss my bed and my friends and my family muchos! horray for fall break! allison is making sure that we go to a haunted house/trail like old times...i'm way excited about taht too, because we're really huge dorks and like that kindof stuff.

off to write about the media portrayl of native americans! see you soon and much love!

thought it was time... [Sep. 25th, 2005|10:12 pm]
so, taking a break from unpacking/cleaning my moldy refridgerator/not studying.

my parents came up for the weekend, because my dad has to do some work interviews for new law students at harvard and yale, so they decided to stop by, pick me up, and go over the hills and far away...uhhh to dartmouth. it was really fun, i got to hang out with the whole fam, and see richard, and all of his friends i haven't seen in 3 years or so. uber fun and relaxing.

WEIRDNESS THAT HAPPENED TONIGHT....so my parents took me out for dinner when we got back to campus. i was sitting there, stuffed to the brim with ravioli, and looking out onto main street. what do i see?
(pause for dramatic effect)

GEORGIA PAPATHEODOUREAU and her mommy! just walking down the street of middletown connecticut. not an everyday occurance for me. so i wave frantically, and they come in. turns out she's up visiting schools around here, including wes! that was the coolest thing--seeing someone from home unexpectitely. very very little chance of it happening but it did.

EVEN BIGGER NEWS!!!! SETH IS COMING UP THIS FRIDAY. I AM SO EXCITED I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO DO WITH MYSELF! AHHH!!!!!

so i'm packing up my life furiously...party becasue i've been procrastinating as usual and have alot to do today...but i actually like it that way, because i'm being kept busy without too much time to think about things.

last night i had a nice dinner with seth at rick erwins. everything about it was perfect. it was a wonderful way to say see you later.

i'm going to go to at least part of the greer game tonight, probably with my bro. if any of yall are going, i'll be up in the parent/boring section, so call me or find me!

greenville's been wonderful but it's time to move on for a while. i don't say goodbye, i say see you later, because i will and it doesn't sound so final.

[Current Music |Michael Trent- Situations]

seriously. this is weird. all of my senior friends are gone. and school starts on monday for ghs. it kinda feels like i'm already behind. as of today, i have one week before i leave to get up to school. and i'm nervous. i'm really really looking forward to a change in scenery, and my roommate seems really nice and she's all exotic and beautiful and foreign (romanian). and i am really looking forward for fall. you know the kindof newenglandy falls that should be in an ll bean catalouge. that'll be fun. and i'm really excited aobut meeting new people and going to classes that seem really interesting.

but on the otherhand, i'm a wreck. i don't want to leave seth. and it makes me sad hearing about some of my friends at usc and clemson having a great time hanging out with each other and all. i'm really gonna miss everyone! i saw abunch of the new seniors yesterday night, and they're all just awesome, and i really hope i can stay in touch with them and not just say i will.

the rest of the week i'll be packing and doctors-appointmenting during the day, and trying to hang out with my family, seth, and my friends at night. sorry this is kinda sappy, but i really miss people already and it makes me owly.

*owly is the best made up word ever. it means when you're just feeling kindof down and depressed and you want to be alone but at the same time with someone just lounging around and not be productive. use this new word well.

i think it's bedtime..love to all!

so i got 2 of my classes today. the rest i'll figure out when i go up to yee old connecticut. but here are the two that i's gots now:

1.Psychohistory Of Modern World
We will examine the often neglected psychological dimension of modern history. First, we will explore processes of global change in the modern period. Then, using a variety of materials, including memoirs, fiction, and film, we will examine how peoples in widely differing cultures and with very different levels of wealth and power adapted to modernization. Several variants of psychoanalysis will be critically examined and applied to a range of topics, among them, the impact of global economic change on the Americas, Africa, Asia, and Europe; the adoption of new cultural forms and accompanying changes of psychology and identity; racism and anti-Semitism; the impact of European imperialism and cultural exportation on the Americas, Africa and Asia; the effects of world wars, civil wars, and revolutions; Nazism, Stalinism, and Maoism; Gandhi and Satyagraha; postcolonialism, the Cold War, and the disintegration of the Communist bloc; the USA as a psychological laboratory; the women's movement, gender revolution, and the emergence of "postmodern," protean psyches.

and...

2.Religions Resist Modernity
Why did the Taliban forbid television? Why do Creationists reject evolution? Why did Gandhi insist that Indian nationalists spin their own thread? Throughout the last century, resistance has been rising to modernity and religion has been playing an increasingly important role in challenging the globalization of modern Western values. This seminar will explore how Europe transformed itself into a "modern" society with worldwide influence. Then it will investigate how the Lakota Sioux, Christian Creationists, Mohandas Gandhi, Malcolm X, the Branch Davidians, and the Taliban each have used religion in an attempt to resist some aspect of modernity either outside the Western world and within it.

the first one is an actual class, size 40 students, and the second is a freshman seminar, with 15 fresheys.

sounds pretty interesting...for once i'm really really excited about learning. WOAH! hope all is well in gvegas

so i'm going to the beach for a few days, coming home for a few days, then driving to chicago to see the brother for a few days. so this means, if you want either an XXXXXLwife beater or mafia memoriabelia, call me and i'll see what i can do.

em, have an ultra fabulous time in LA. always wear oversized sunglasses, hold your arms up tranarexic-ish, and pretend to be mary-kate!

i took a nap today for the first time in a while...i highly recommend it.

HARRY POTTER IS EXCELLENT! EVEN IF YOU ARE NOT A HARRY FAN, START WITH BOOK ONE, READ FOR ABOUT 72 HOURS STRAIGHT, UNTIL YOU FINISH 6. IT'S TOTALLY WORTH IT. speaking of which, this is how i plan to survive a 12 hour drive in a small car. harry on tape. ahhhhhhhhhhh...19 hours of potter.

ok, so you all now know i'm a dork.

[Current Music |not so super secret demos]

just because he's forcing me to... and because i've been lazy. eigh, it's summer!

hmm so what all has happened? i finally chose wesleyan. it's awesome...i just got my dorm number, but no roomate news yet. but i will have one. and i hope she's a barrell of fun! i haven't bought a ton of stuff yet for school, but i decided i wanted to do something to keep to my roots way up in connecticut, so i'm going to get a huge south carolina flag that is a duvet cover for my bed...be proud courtney!

i'm one of the few stragglers in greenville for the fourth of july week...whoever's in town, give me a call, and we can do some fun stuff.

speaking of which, a french guy, some son of my parent's friends, is staying with us starting friday for about a month. i haven't seen a picture of him or anything, but if anyone's in the mood for some french lovin, give me a call after friday, and i'll give you the full scoop.

oh, i'm legal now too. i can now finally buy nudie magazines!

hmmmm i'm pretty tired, so i'm going to hit the bed soon. tomorrow i get my awesomely cool gauchos that are apple green that my glorious pal emily picked up for me at urban outfitters. emily, you are magnificient.

fun little story calling out the loserness of both me and emily...
so today we were getting ready to go out on the downtown for july 4th goodness, and she points out her extreme dorkyness of having a tube of benedril mosquito cream in her purse. i immediately respond by digging in my purse and pulling out my identical tube. SAD.

until next time...which will be augustish the way i'm going now...

nope, i didn't get into pomona...they didn't accept anyone off of the waiting list, but i'm cool with that.

so now i

a. know exactly where i'm going
b. know what's going to happen between me and seth, because last night we decided we're going to try and stay together.

so yay for that. those are the two burdens that have been on my back for the entire school year, gradually getting heavier and heavier as the time gets closer. but now they're off. so yay!

i'm going to charleston for the weekend. hope y'all all have a spectacular memorial day weekend! go and fly in a balloon at freedom weekend if you're in town. i've always wanted to do that.

so indecisive eleanor has finally made up her mind.

well, 98% of my mind.

i went to wesleyan to visit with my dear mother. my stomach was all jumpy from god knows what, so i didn't want to even go, because upset stomach + air turbulance = not fun. but it wasn't bad. despite the very nice man that sat beside us, because aparently a colonge truck full of sickly sweet colonge had dumped all on him on the way to the airport, judging on the sheer power his aroma had. it was terrible.

so i got there at about 630, and met my host girl, who was very nice. we met with a bunch of her friends and ate some dinner in the cafeteria, and had a really good time. then she had a bunch of work to do before their exams, which are next week, and i was still not feeling 100%, so we just chilled in the dorm. low-key but fun.

the next day, i sat in on a french class, which was really cool. everyone there made a point to go and introduce themselves to me, and included me in on the activities. then i ate lunch with a guy that one of julia's friends from harvard knew, and he was also very cool.

so basically, i could just picture myself on the campus and being there next year. so i accepted, and gave them my deposit. the only thing that would stop me from going there is if pomona accepts me off of their waiting list. then i would accept there, because that is my dream. but more than likely, that won't happen, and i'm more than happy at wesleyan. the people are really nice and cool and chill. everyone is very laid-back smart, which is the type of people that i like.

so yay!
everyone's coming up to visit next year! right?? hint hint nudge nudge. here's what can help you...

2 hours from Boston
and most importantly...

CALIFORNIA...roll [Apr. 8th, 2005|03:07 pm]
[Current Mood | straight GANSTA]
[Current Music |NWA- Straight out of Compton]

SUSHI FRIDAY HAS ARRIVED!!!!! let's don our artsy outfits and eat some great food! this is one of the most excited for going out to eat i have ever been! why? publicity baby!

so i'll do an update, and i'll use the livejournal for more than just a pr to coordinate dinner plans, stef, so there!

college wise, i'm pretty much set on wesleyan university in middletown connecticut. the only way i wouldn't go there is if pomona accepts me off of the waiting list, which i won't know about until late may/junish, so i will accept wes, and most likely go there. website is wesleyan.edu if any of y'all want to see where you're coming up to visit next year! according to the polls, wes is very liberal/left wing/hippy/stoners, so it'll be intersting. but i think mostly those polls are a playing to the extremes and it will be pretty normal. it's a little less than 3 hours away from my brother, so that will be so nice to have him able to drive down to see me on weekends, and for us to see eachother in general more often. he's the best brother ever. the cool thing is they have an INCREDIBLE film department program, which i might consider minoring in. i've always been infatuated with film direction. so sweet!

i miss seth and all of the other juniors. i hope they're all having a fabu time in washington. they won't be able to beat our trip though, because we had such a fun time, and ms. powell went on ours, so ha. it was really nice of him though, because on tuesday, their last day before they left, we were going to go out for ice cream downtown and then go to the lacross game. so he showed up to pick me up and had brought me really pretty flowers just because! i need to think of something very fun girlfriendy to do for him, because i feel i need to say thanks. i'm thinking something along the lines of my super fabulous cookies. they're wonderful.

our prom group is going to be so fun! especially in our 12 person CAN as courtney typoed earlier. i love it, i think we should call all big ugly vans cans from now on. it will be done.

i created the best academic team t-shirts in the world. the front says
greenville high
a*team '05 Sucka...

and then the back has a huge picture of Mr. T in all of his chains and glory, holding an academic team buzzer, and it says "i pity tha' fool...who has to play us." genious, i know.

i have senioritis worse than i have ever had in my life. and i really can't because i need good 3rd and 4th quarter grades to send to pomona still. i'm in freakin purgatory!

i might take that dumb survay perhaps, but my answers are pretty predictable, so i'll find a more fun one to start like wildfire.

i'm avoiding work, so i figured i'd be a little bit productive and update. although i have done some work today, so i guess i'm about par.

emily says there are 65 days left until graduation. to this i say heck yes!!!!! i'm so sick of the same old shit everyday. i honestly don't give a shit. i just can't fail, because then supposidly colleges will revoke their acceptance letters. boo.

today i went with sarah to loose lucy's and got a cute hippy skirt which i will be wearing tomorrow. it came with free incence, which i gave to allison, because she loves the smell of hippies/pot coverup/concerts. i'm really hoping it is warm tomorrow, but if not, i'm just going to freeze. the retail therapy worked wonders, as did a long-ass workout. i always feel very productive after a long-ass workout. i need to fit into my prom dress, so i see TONS of those in the near future. if anyone (ehhm ehmmm emily) wants to be my workout buddy...give me a call!!

that's all.
